Description

Ivatt 2MT Class No. 41243 (built 1949) heads a three-carriage Up passenger service, with van, towards the Hammoon road bridge, north west of Shillingstone in 1962. Friesian cows graze in the nearby fields.

Interestingly, although the loco is only shown as having been allocated to Bath Green Park (22C/82F) or Templecombe (82G), in this photo it is wearing an 82A (Bristol Barrow Road) shedplate. 41243 was withdrawn in July 1965.

The carriage set number appears to be 870 and while the carriages are correct according to the list compiled by the Southern Railway Email Group, set 870 was apparently assembled in 1963.
