Volunteers are essential for the Trust to operate! There are all sorts of opportunities for taking part in preserving the memories and rolling stock of the Somerset & Dorset Railway. We cherish our volunteers and have proper management procedures to encourage and support you. A variety of tasks are available, some of which are carried out on site; others you can do from home.

Currently, we require new volunteers for the following activities:

– On-site: restoration of vehicles at Washford, including S&D carriages dating back to the 1890s. Helping to prepare other wagons, vans and museum exhibits at Washford for road transport to take them to new locations. Also, to assist with setting up displays at the new locations, particularly at Alresford, Hampshire and Bitton, Gloucestershire. All sorts of tasks, for all levels of skills and with proper supervision.

– At home: we are looking for people with a good standard of English and graphical capabilities who can use Serif Affinity Publisher to help with aspects of the production of our quarterly magazine.

Interested? Just email volunteer[@]sdrt.org. (Please delete the two square brackets in the address; these deter automated emails.) Site Director Nigel Davies will be pleased to discuss with you how your skills can be best used.
