Templecombe station frontage on last day, 06-03-66

£1.50

Description

The front of Templecombe station as seen on the last day of operation, 6 March 1966. Both Templecombe station and the S&D which connected to the Salisbury-Exeter line here were closed on and from Monday 7 March.

The station was reconstructed under a government finance scheme and completed in 1938 . Today, only the signal box remains from the rebuild (and was last used for that purpose in 2011) but the station reopened to passengers in 1983.

The photographer – who normally travelled around on a Lambretta scooter, which appears in some of his photos – had on this occasion arrived in a hired red mini, registration 461 ANW, which can be seen outside the entrance to the station.
