Description

Fowler 2P Class No. 40569 (built 1928, with 82G Templecombe shedplate) and BR Standard Class 5 No. 73052 (built 1954) arrive at Shillingstone with the Down Pines Express on a quite noticeable downhill gradient.

The Up siding with buffer stop was still shown on a 1960 signal box diagram but had largely disappeared by 1965 – the crossover in the lower part of the picture still remained.

40569 is shown as already allocated to Bath Green Park upon nationalisation in 1948 and remaining either there or at Templecombe until withdrawal in November 1961. 73052 is shown as allocated to Bath Green Park from new until withdrawal in December 1964/January 1965.
