Description

Fowler 2P Class No. 40634 (built 1928) and Standard Class 5 No. 73050 (built 1954) with an Up (Bath-bound) through service crossing Prestleigh Viaduct in January 1961.

Always Templecombe-allocated, 40634 is shown as being withdrawn in May 1962. 73050 was allocated to Bath Green Park from new until July/August 1962. It was also allocated to Bath for a further short period, but this was after the cessation of through services.

Note that this picture appears in the 1975 Bradford Barton book of the photographer’s images, where the Class 5 is incorrectly stated to be 73051 – it can be clearly seen to be 73050 on the high res. scan.
