Description

Fowler S&D 7F No. 53808 (built 1925 as S&D No. 88) and BR Standard Class 5 No. 73047 (built 1953) have just passed over Masbury summit with an Up service of at least eight carriages. No date is given for the photo but it is almost certainly before the end of through services over the S&D in September 1962. The photo appears to have been taken from the Roemead Road overbridge; now demolished.

53808 is shown as already allocated to Bath Green Park at the time of nationalisation in 1948 and remaining there until withdrawal in April 1964. Arriving at the Woodham Bros. Barry Island scrapyard in August of that year, the locomotive was rescued by the Trust in 1970 and returned to steam in 1987.

Allocation reports vary for 73047 but Longworth records the loco as being allocated to Bath Green Park from 1955 until July 1964 and withdrawn later in 1964.
