Description

BR Standard Class 4 No. 75009 (built 1951) and Bulleid West Country Class No. 34039 Boscastle (built 1946) on a Down through service approaching the Chilcompton Tunnels in 1962.

75009 is shown as allocated to Templecombe in September/October 1961 until November 1962. 34039 was withdrawn in May 1965 and was subsequently preserved.

The cutting here was infilled after closure and presents a major obstacle to the S&D at Midsomer Norton whose one-mile line stops just short of the infill.

In the full res. image, the footplate crew on 34039 can be seen pointing to, and waving at someone, perhaps another photographer.

The first carriage is SC 1916 M and passengers can be seen looking out of the windows. The carriage shows signs of corrosion and is apparently holed.
