Description

BR 4MT class 4-6-0 locomotive No. 75073 (built 1955) and BR Standard Class 5 No. 73054 (built 1954) are on a Down passenger service (likely to be a through service) having just passed through the Chilcompton Tunnels.

Ahead of them, the Chilcompton Down Distant signal is ‘off’ and at the end of the curve, Redan Bridge can be seen. There is no date given for the photo but it can be deduced from the type of service and 73054 being present that this most likely to be 1961-2.

This stretch of trackbed was purchased by the S&D at Midsomer Norton during 2023.

75073 is shown as being allocated to Bath Green Park from 1957 until moved to Templecombe from November 1962 and was withdrawn in December 1965/January 1966. 73054 is shown as allocated to Bath Green Park from March/April 1961 until withdrawal in August 1965.
