Description

BR Standard Class 4 No. 75009 (built 1951, with 82G Templecombe shedplate) and Bulleid West Country Class No. 34045 Ottery St. Mary (built 1946) head a Down through service towards the pair of tunnels near Chilcompton. They are travelling through the deep cutting which was infilled many years ago and is now a major impediment to the southwards progress of the S&D at Midsomer Norton – their running line stops just short of the cutting infill.

75009 is shown as allocated to Templecombe in September/October 1961 until November 1962. 34045 was withdrawn in June 1964.

No date is given for the photo but the shedplate of 75009 provides a suitably narrow range!
