The Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust’s photographic archive contains over 3000 S&D images. These are steadily being scanned and those for which we hold all rights are being added to our online shop.

We now have 787 S&D images online and for all of these, you can purchase a low resolution image for immediate download, or enquire about higher resolutions which are supplied by email. Images can be browsed by location, or use the site search at the top right of the screen where any relevant data can be inserted, eg, date (DD-MM-YY), locomotive number, etc. This produces a drop-down shortlist of images – click on the magnifier symbol in the search box to see the full advanced search results.

Many areas are covered in depth; there are 57 images from Evercreech Junction, covering all aspects of operations there and over 70 images taken at Evercreech New with a special emphasis on double-headers!

S&D images included are mostly from two main collections; the John Woods collection (colour) and the David Milton collection (black & white). We have recently added around 40 black & white images from the John Richardson collection and 600 colour images by David Milton (a former Trust Chairman) are in the process of being scanned with several dozen added already. In addition, we have over 100 purely Southern images from the Richardson collection which will be added in their own category in due course. During summer 2020 we added 29 images by H C Casserley.

November additions – Bath Junction (new category): 4 new images. 1 image each; Shapwick, Wells [new category], Sturminster Newton, Shillingstone, Evercreech Junction, Templecombe Lower platform.
