BR ‘Modified Hall’ class 4-6-0 locomotive no. 6979 ‘Helperley Hall’ (allocated 84C Banbury) on a Newcastle to Bournemouth West passenger service. Wednesday 19 July 1961. The train is heading down the now-dismantled east chord of the triangle; viaduct also in view.

The signal immediately beyond the viaduct can be seen Off, but also on the high res. version of the image, the junction signal on the main line can be seen Off just in front of the loco.
