Description

9F No. 92220 ‘Evening Star’ (with 82F Bath Green Park shedplate) on 2B92, the 9.03 am (9.53 am ex-Bath) service to Bournemouth in 1962, seen passing over the level crossing at Evercreech Junction. 92220 was the last steam locomotive built for BR, entering service in March 1960 and being withdrawn five years later, though it is now part of the National Collection.

The loco carries a 2B92 reporting code disc which has ‘9.55’ chalked onto it. Owing to the sunny weather and the slow speed of the train, starting from the station stop, this is an exceptionally sharp photo and on the full resolution image, the loco’s maker’s plate (showing ‘BUILT 1960 SWINDON’) is very clearly readable.
