Description

BR 4MT class 4-6-0 locomotive No. 75073 (built 1955, with 82F Bath Green Park shedplate) and BR Standard Class 9F No. 92220 (built 1960) – named ‘Evening Star’, the last steam locomotive built by BR workshops and, consequently, always destined to be preserved – are on the 9.03 am (9.53 am from Bath) Bristol to Bournemouth service. The 2B92 reporting code disc is being displayed.

Meanwhile, BR Standard Class 4 No. 75009 (built 1951) stands in the centre siding, probably awaiting an Up service in need of piloting.

No date is given for the photo but given the greenery and the loco allocations, it is almost certainly summer 1962, the last summer of through services over the S&D.

75073 is shown as being allocated to Bath Green Park from 1957 until moved to Templecombe from November 1962 and was withdrawn in December 1965/January 1966. 92220 is shown as allocated to Bath Green Park from July/August 1962 until the following September/October and again from July/August 1963 until the following October. 75009 is shown as allocated to Templecombe in September/October 1961 until November 1962.
