Description

Wartime on the Underground. London’s first underground line opened in 1863 connecting Paddington and Kings Cross to a new terminus nearer the heart of the City at Faringdon. The deep level tube system, built between 1890 and 1907 offered a refuge from the air raids during both World Wars. In 1941 a train of 1938 stock arrives at Trafalgar Square on the Bakerloo line as exhausted Londoners shelter for the night.
