A fresh look at Ivo Peters’ film of the Somerset & Dorset Railway, which closed in 1966.
In Part 1, after a brief introduction and a glimpse of the man behind the camera, we travel down the line from Bath Green Park to Masbury Summit, 811 feet above sea level on the Mendips. A subsequent volume will complete the journey to Broadstone, and then return to Bath from Evercreech Junction on a freight train.
Ivo’s son, Julian, is the narrator for this totally new programme, which has been remastered in its entirety. It includes previously unseen archive film, as well as a new sound track, and then and now shots at several locations. On the inside of the cover is a map of the line, plus a gradient profile, giving an overall picture of the railway.
