Description

BR Standard Class 5 No. 73049 (built 1953) and Bulleid West Country Class No. 34043 Combe Martin (built 1946) on an Up through service of ten carriages approaching the south portal of Combe Down Tunnel. This part of the line is now the Two Tunnels Greenway.

73049 is shown as allocated to Bath Green Park from 1955-60 and again from June/July 1962 until August-October 1964. 34043 was withdrawn in June 1963. The most likely date for the photo is therefore summer 1962 prior to the last through services working over the S&D on 8 September 1962.
