H C Casserley

Henry Cyril Casserley - born in 1903 - became one of Britain's foremost railway photographers, amassing around 60,000 photographs over his lifetime. He started with a basic camera in 1919 which was soon replaced by a quarter-plate reflex camera and later by a camera using the more convenient 35mm film format.

The first auction of the Casserley collection took place last year and the second auction, expected later this year, contains a further small batch of S&D material. In the first auction, we recognised one of the other bidders and he has kindly agreed to forward those S&D images that he obtained when he is finished with them.

Our initial images were taken mostly in two locations; Templecombe motive power depot in 1926 and close to Masbury summit in 1938.

All images are 800 pixels wide and are available for immediate download; after checkout, go to 'My Account' where the downloadable products will be listed. When ordering, you can include any other products - including membership and goods such as books and DVDs - in the same order; you don't need to check out twice. Commercial enquiries are welcomed; see the main photos page.
