Dates of Change
- 1883 AMEND TO READ: 1884 (December) change of S&D locomotive livery from Midland bluish-green to Midland red;
- 1884 AMEND TO READ: 1881-82 five carriages and eight break vans piped for vacuum working;
- 1885 (post Binegar crash 31 July) commencement of fitting vacuum brakes on passenger locomotives (completed before December 1886 - and ca. 1890 for goods locomotives) and passenger rolling stock (completed by December 1889);
- 1885-86 fitting of Train Staff & Ticket holder on right exterior of locomotive cab - and removed 1895-96;
- 1899 AMEND TO READ: 1895 (latter months) introduction of gas lighting in passenger rated stock initially to five unknown vehicles with remainder having been fitted by 1900 (single gas line to lamp tops - installation of second (pilot) gas line thought to be ca. 1910);
- 1904 (January) fitting of Whitaker tablet apparatus to all engines;

- DELETE THE SENTENCE: The 6-wheeled PBV ... AND REPLACE WITH: Prior to 1900 the 6-wheeled PBV was fitted with a full height central ducket (lookout). During the early 1900s some of the duckets were modified (see page 22) and both types could bee seen on arc and semi-elliptical roofed stock.
