92203 stars at Merehead Quarry Weekend
An old friend of the Somerset and Dorset line was back in Somerset recently.
One of the starring locomotives at the "Cranmore 150 Quarry Gala Weekend" event at Merehead Quarry was 9F 2-10-0 no. 92203, now owned by artist David Shepherd.
No. 92203 was built in January 1959 and was one of the 9Fs allocated to Bath locomotive depot for summer service over the S&D in the early 1960s. The loco was withdrawn after less than nine years service, and was purchased straight from BR by its present owner.
One of the highlights of the event was the 9F pulling a stone train weighing almost 2000 tonnes (pictured above-copyright Andrew Marsh).
