Successful year for the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust The Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust, based at Washford on the West Somerset Railway, has announced a record year for numbers of people visiting its Museum. Admissions in 2006 were some 30% up, reaching nearly 2500. This does not include Trust members, who have free entry as part of their membership benefits, nor admission on Thomas weekends, when no entry fee is charged. The museum features the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust's collection of memorabilia of the much loved line, including a working replica of Midford signal box and wagons and coaches undergoing refurbishment. The last working saddle tank from the Somerset coalfield, Peckett 0-4-0ST Kilmersdon (No 1708 of 1929), also resides at Washford.
George Moon, the Trust's Sales Manager, said: "People's interest in the line has been stimulated in 2006 by the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of closure, and we are looking forward to another successful year in 2007. But we depend on volunteers to keep the Museum open, so we welcome new members."
