Celebration of the Somerset & Dorset Railway - click for a bigger view! Called "Celebration of the Somerset & Dorset Railway", this brand new book, the latest in the well known and highly acclaimed series from Alan Hammond, coincides with the 40th Anniversary of the closure of the S&DJR. 

Inside the covers there is a potted history of the line illustrated with well over 235 photographs, many never before seen. Interspersed with the images are lots of memories from staff with their own stories to tell and much more. 

There is also a chapter about the people and groups that are keeping the memory alive of this unique railway 40 years on, including the SDRT of course! 

World Cup winner Alan Ball MBE, has compiled the foreword which coincides with England winning the World Cup, also 40 years ago in 1966. 

This soon to be highly treasured book is a limited edition of 2500 hand numbered copies. "Celebration of the Somerset & Dorset Railway" will be available in the first week of March 2006. Copies can be ordered now from Trust Sales. The price is £20 (plus postage). For a book of this calibre, we're sure you will agree this is excellent value for money, forty years on.
